Arts and Humanities Collection

An international range of content across the visual and performing arts and the humanities. Institutions can subscribe to all the collections through a single subscription. Alternatively, they are available as five separate collections as follows:

  • Videos covering Asian, Australasian, Latin American and African Studies, as well as Literature, Anthropology of Art, Politics, History, Gender & Sexuality, and Environment & Sustainability.

  • The Music Collection
  • Filmed performances and documentaries on genres from jazz to classical and featuring renowned figures such as Arvo Pärt, Pierre Boulez, Stephen Sondheim and many more.

Opera Collections

Filmed productions of 80 operas by over 40 composers with performances from world class opera houses including The Royal Opera House, Teatro Real, La Fenice, Glyndebourne and more. The period collections span Early and Baroque operas from pre-1750 through to the present.

  • The Early and Baroque Opera (pre-1750)
  • 9 productions of early works including William Christie conducting Monteverdi's L'Orfeo (Teatro Real, 2008) and Pierre Audi's production of Landi's Morte d'Orfeo (Dutch National Opera, 2018).

  • Classical Opera (1750-1830)
  • 13 fully exclusive performances including Laurent Pelly directing Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, (Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, 2017) and David McVicar’s production of Die Zauberflöte (The Royal Opera House, 2017).

  • Romantic Opera (1830-1900)
  • 26 filmed productions including David McVicar's Faust (The Royal Opera, 2019) and Puccini's La Bohème conducted by Antonio Pappano (The Royal Opera House, 2017).

  • Modern Opera (1900 - )
  • 11 exclusive filmed performances from the 20th century to present day including Martin Duncan's production of The Adventures of Pinocchio (Opera North, 2008) and Teatro Real's 2005 production of Torroba's Luisa Fernanda.

  • Glyndebourne Festival Opera
  • 29 performances, filmed at the Glyndebourne Festival from 2005-2019. Highlights include David McVicar's production of Giulio Cesare (2005); the 2010 revival of Hockney and Cox's production of Stravinsky's Rake's Progress; and the world premiere of Brett Dean's multi-award-winning Hamlet in 2017.
